Common Pondhawk

I think this is a common pondhawk ~ a mature male. I could easily be wrong of course. Seen on our walk this morning, nowhere near a pond. Seen in the farm pond, however, was a (the?) great blue heron, so its photo is the extra. What amuses me about this particular shot is that one of its legs is obscured behind the log, but it can be clearly seen reflected in the water below.
