When all else fails - Kiss
With all the miles I have traveled, I have learned some very common drivers behavior. Like with light traffic and you see two of three cars hit their brakes for no apparent reason, there is probably a smoky bear hiding in the bushes...
Well today all started normal but after going through the states capitol. I saw NO northbound traffic. Something was up. 10 miles further down the road, I saw an overturned tanker truck that had shut the northbound lanes. It wasn't until later I heard it spilled 1800 gallon of used oil on the highway and the driver was arrested for a possible DUI. Of course this is the busiest travel day as it's Independence Day tomorrow in the states.
So by the time I was done in Portland, I looked up how traffic was doing. It was up to a 13 mile backup -7 miles on the highway and 6 miles on the detour as the highway would be closed for a total of nearly 8 hours. Just one mile from the exit you took for the detour, they got two lanes open again. Perfect timing. It still took me over 4 hours to go 70 miles. While parked on the road I was looking for a blip. I thought of this and... Yep two Hersey Kisses on the dashboard...
In the don't judge a book by its cover file.. On my way home after work I stopped by a local restaurant as I knew I would be in lots of traffic going home. I was annoyed the a full sized pickup and trailer was parked in 7 stalls at the front of the restaurant...Until I got of of my car and...
The First thing I noticed was the POW/MIA flag of you are not forgotten.. then the handicapped license plate, the "dog tags" hanging from the mirror, the Semper Fi on the window and.. Just as I was about to enter the restaurant, a man wearing shorts, a T-shirt, a single crutch and an artificial leg was coming out. He was an Iraq War Veteran. Being Independence Day tomorrow, I thanked him for his service, he held out his hand, we shook hands, he thanked me for caring and we went our separate ways...
Tomorrow afternoon I head over to my cousins for a family fourth picnic but I'll be sleeping through the displays as I have to be back at work by 03:00...
