Shadows on the Hill

Today the weather did not seem conducive to being out, rain, gloom, on and off.   I took some time to stop at an old cemetery set on hilly terrain.  They are called "resting places", I find cemeteries quite inspiring to introspection and keeping life in perspective.

After walking for a while among the headstones, it becomes clear that like memories the few words that are inscribed in the hardest stone eventually fade with time.  The last line of a Portuguese poem that I found very insightful reads "it is not time that passes,  people pass, time remains..."

Tomorrow, Independence Day celebration.  Perhaps a more upbeat blip?
