Scooting down the Mountain
Tomas and Marketa had jobs to do in Sumperk this morning so Tony and I had a lie in and took our time over the morning, reading on the terrace of this lovely mountain home.
After lunch we took to the car and, with a special permit to drive through the forest, we headed upwards to the top of the mountain Dlouhe Strane. During the Communist era in the 80s, the authorities sliced off the top and created a reservoir, destroying much of the local eco system in its production. Now it is part of the reservation, with limited access by vehicle and Nature is back in a big way. We parked about 350 feet below the summit and walked up the access road and then 2k around the reservoir with fabulous mountain views all around.
It is popular to take up your bike or scooter on the chairlift and then head 14k downhill to the village in the valley. This chap was heading down at speed with his little dog in his rucksack!
Whilst we circled the reservoir, Tomas and Marketa outlined some of their plans for us over the coming week. We will have a day walk tomorrow along a mountain trail and then at the weekend we will have two days with an overnight stay in a simple mountain cabin, hopefully to take in spectacular sunset and sunrise!
