Poppies
A hot day today - I was pleased to be at home and not having to rush around in this heat.
Tonight is going to be special with the final music concert at school. Thomas is playing two pieces on his trumpet, Handel's Eternal Source of light and there is also a soloist who is singing the piece. His other piece is Shostakovitch's Piano Concerto No. 1 where another pupil is playing the piano part. Both Adam and Luke are coming to hear their brother perform, but then will go home afterwards while Gavin and I stay on for a governors' dinner.
Tomorrow is an early start for the final chapel service followed by speech day and prize giving. We then enjoy a picnic lunch in the school grounds and so I prepared some of the picnic food today.
The breeder sent a message last night, she has had fun choosing the official Kennel Club registered names for the puppies, and I love the names she chose. She has chosen names based on gem stones according to the colour of their puppy collars, and people who brought about social change. The names are Ruby O' Malley (red and after Grace O' Malley, a famed female pirate), Amber Makeba (orange and after Miriam Makeba) Fourier Tigers Eye (yellow and after a French philosophiser and activist for women's rights) Aventurine Earhart (green and after Amelia Earhart) and Lazuli Lovelace (blue after Ada Lovelace). I think they are brilliant names, so much better than the usual nonsensical kennel club names.
There are many poppies growing near the war memorial in the next village and I went to take some photos of them today, they looked beautiful in the sunshine.
