Day one
It was still cool when we got on our bike a little after eight on the way to a point where we started our journey along the Geleen creek. It is not the source, there are springs in several places. We have selected a route that follows the stream as close as possible. The creek runs into a small lake near Ohé and Laak, crossing the highway and the Juliana canal.
At Stevensweert we had lunch at the Hompeschemolen, which turns out to be the largest (or highest) mill on the Dutch mainland. From here we followed the so-called Dead Wire Route or Border Route.
The Dead Wire Route is a route that follows the border as much as possible between the Netherlands and Belgium during WWI. We don't see much of it yet and maybe there isn't much either. The white crocuses that are planned along the entire border are of course not there. We did cycle past a place where the situation was recreated. The white wire insulators must have looked almost like crocuses.
We pitch our tent at Stamproy and then cycle another ten kilometers to get the hundred full.
