Insect invasion
Down to Coquetdale early evening for the last of this year's Alwinton Summer Concerts, by Spiro. According to their website, their music is a "...raw, punk-infused take on minimalist systems music and the dark side of folk, charged with the ecstatic influence of the clubbing scene".
We had intended to have a picnic nearby, and got the things out of the car, but so many flies swarmed around us that the only sensible option was to eat inside So we admired the view from within!
Then off to the concert, held in the church. Outside there were black clouds of midges - reminiscent of Scotland on a bad day in June! So we rushed in and found our seats, only to discover that the midges had invaded the church in sufficient numbers to keep the audience - and musicians, when they could - swatting and scratching through the entire concert.
Midges aside, the concert was brilliant and most enjoyable. What fantastic musicians! We'll look out for Spiro in future.
MrM drove us further in to Coquetdale in the hope of catching the sunset, but we were too late, and the fading light was taking the colour from the landscape with it...
