Portpatrick- poster child for community action

Until a week ago I had only vaguely heard of Portpatrick a remote seaside town on the south west coast of Scotland.
Now I learn that the villagers bought their harbour and saved their future.

And it took them just three week to raise enough money from 554 shareholders, some from far afield as Canada and Bermuda, to do this.
Today they are regarded as an outstanding example of how how radical community action can save isolated rural seaside communities.
