Sky, Sea and Sand
Backblip
Had to post this picture just to prove that we did get the odd glimpse of sunshine while we were in Orkney:-) However, the day started out very grey and threatening (see Extra) though it did brighten up a bit later.
We paid a quick (wet) visit to the Orkneyinga Viking Saga Centre just up the road from where we were staying and watched a video about some of the Viking sagas. What a bloodthirsty lot they were, always killing off relatives who stood in their way to power!
Then it was on to North Ronaldsay and a visit to Poppy and Mike and the lovely Lottie for the most delicious lunch and a chance to get to know them better and admire their fabulous garden. Definitely one of our best days on Orkney by far:-)
As we crossed the first Churchill Barrier on our way back to Orphir, the sun came out and I couldn't resist a walk on these golden sands. I'm sure the beach has a name, but I couldn't find it anywhere! It was a frustratingly brief glimpse of how things might have been had the weather been more summery. A good excuse to come back another time in the hope of better luck:-)
