Nightjar and 3 Rhinos

Day 24 South African Diaries (day 23 backblipped).

We had stopped to photograph this Nightjar on his perch during our night drive (you can shine light onto nocturnal animals and birds but not on diurnal ones). A minute later we were both elated and disappointed to briefly cast our light over 3 black rhino, a mother and 2 youngsters of different ages apparently, but we could not shine our light on them! Still it was a privilege to see them and so unexpected!

Extra of the sun rising this morning, a drive to show that power lines, as well as railway lines (yesterday’s extra) cross the Kruger National Park. The birds and monkeys use them as lookout spots.
