Leah and I braved the snowy (and achingly gorgeous) switchbacks of US40 to meet Michael and Mel, who were vacationing at the neighboring Granby Ski Ranch. We feasted, imbibed in microbrews at a local brewpub, and hung with Mel's kids on our broken sled shards at the nearby park (in about about 7 degrees!)

Yes, even though M&M just live a bit up the street back in Fort Worth, it was a wonderful experience sharing the afternoon with them in this beautiful state.

We miss it here. I miss it here. As you probably know (because of my incessant babblings on the subject), I grew up in CO through elementary, middle, and high school and received my undergraduate degree from here. And Leah came out to Colorado every summer for more than a decade to stay with her grandparents who live down the road from my parents (great coincidence, eh?!). Indeed, the Denver leg of this trip for me is full of longing, as it usually is. Today confirmed all of these emotions even more as worlds beautifully collided: sharing pints with friends from my current city and current life, but all within in a setting deeply weaved into the upbringing of my personal history.

This is Leah's boot in the depths of fresh, soft, pure snow.
