Gay Pride
We haven’t been to Pride for a few years as we’ve been on holiday so it was great to be able to go today. We weren’t marching as you have to register and places are limited and having marched in previous years we know that you don’t get to see everyone else and the floats etc. So this year we watched from a good viewing point near Trafalgar Square, with S&S and friends.
The parade was great but noticeably very commercial this year with all sorts of companies taking part and advertising. Nonetheless there were thousands of marchers with rainbows everywhere and everyone in great spirits. These 2 guys stopped for the photo and told me they were in the original London Gay Pride March in 1972. How things have changed. I remember how different it was when I did the Lesbian Strength Marches in the mid 80’s.
At 4pm we headed to a sports bar to watch England vs Sweden for 3rd place in the Women’s World Cup, which we unfortunately lost 2-1. I don’t think their heart was in it, they wanted the top prize only.
At 6.30pm when we left the bar the march was still going, but we had to leave as Lori was home from Italy for one night only. Tired but excited to see her and catch up on all her news we went for an Indian meal.
