In the 30-some years I've lived in this area the council have been planning a relief road. Upper Stone Street, a two-lane street records one of the highest pollution values outside London. The reason is simply that it is a narrow road which climbs a hill and is a key part of the one-way system carrying traffic away from the town centre. Anyone passing from the north to join the main road to Hastings must use Lower Stone Street. It is used by heavy-goods vehicles and buses as well as lots of cars. Check the geotag on this blip - I've tagged Upper Stone Street rather than where I saw the paper. A closer read shows that they are thinking of charging HGVs, buses and taxis, i.e. the folk who can pass the charge on to their customers.
Anyway, no other photos because I was glued to the cricket - what an incredible ending.
