Tràigh Mhòr, Tholastaidh
Lewis and Harris are almost entirely but not quite completely shut on a Sunday, which makes it a little strange for those of us who live in a city where the next time the shops all close is about 22:00 on Christmas Eve. We went north from where we stayed overnight to the picnic area at the north end of the aptly named Tràigh Mhòr (big beach, but it sounds better in Gaelic). It was a bit showery but we put on our overtrousers for warmth as well as keeping the rain off and went for a walk. There were 5 others on the beach so it wasn’t busy and we had a long chat with a couple over from Aberdeenshire for a couple of weeks. There was a couple of brighter patches in which the blip was taken of the patterns in the sand. Afterwards we went into Stornoway, parked and wandered about looking at the various sculptures, murals and fishing detritus, all the while thinking how nice it would be to get afternoon tea. We completely forgot that An Lannteir was the only place open so missed our chance to support them. We drove over Barvas Moor, quite bleak on a damp and misty afternoon, but enlivened by seeing a Raven harassing a Golden Eagle. The collage is a few things that caught my eye in and around Stornoway, a sculpture, mural, rope, the New Wine Church ! and a sign just north of town.
Yesterday’s blip.
