The other side...

... of Bantry House. Yes, this is the stable yard, now not used for much but a log store and geranium propaganda (or even propagating, thank you Himself) spot by the look of it. And note the rather odd horse's head - there are a lots of these in the quadrangle. I was there as  part of the West Cork Literary Festival which is in full swing and has an incredibly ambitious programme. I was there to see Raynor Winn in conversation with Sara Baume and a very relaxed and informative chat it was.Gaynor Winn and her husband Moth, received a double whammy of misfortune in that they were forced to leave their house of 20 years in the same week that Moth discovered he had a terminal illness. No home, no money and no jobs, they decided to walk!  They walked the South West Coast path around Devon and Cornwall and her book the Salt Path is the result - part essay on homelessness, part an eye opener re  the beauty of landscape and nature, part love story, part an eagle eyed and sympathetic analysis of human nature. She came over as gentle and wise, and her husband looked frail but well.

And it's been raining - see extra, but the sun has now come out and a bracing swim has just been taken.
