Homeward

Dan and I headed back over to GOSH, this morning, to find Abi up and dressed and in a chipper mood. The puffiness was gone from around her face, as were the bandages that had encircled her head. If wasn't for the blood matted in her hair and all the steristrips behind her ear, you wouldn't know that she'd been through three hours of surgery the day before.

It's a funny thing to say, but we had a happy couple of hours, as the discharge process was completed in a stately fashion, including visits from the nurse, Jamie, who was clearly enjoying his rapport with Abi. I must say that it never ceases to amaze me how - given their workload combined with the fact the NHS is short-staffed, and the disrespectful way in which the government treats them - everyone we dealt with was helpful and smiley, and clearly devoted to their patients. Amazing people.

Eventually, we were all done and Dan, Abi, and Hannelie made their way up to Euston and the train home, while I travelled back across to Barking to collect the car. I like Barking; the town centre is mostly independent shops and, today, a sunny market day, it was full of colour and life.
