Race for the pineapple
Mum won. View large
I don't know much about Kune kune pig Mums' but it appears Rosie is at best average. JT fed heaps of pineapple to Rosie and her 10 piglets and Rosie literally grabbed from the mouths of babes.
Sadly one piglet is half the size of the others. JT thinks he was bitten at birth around the nose area and it seems to affect his eating. JT tried to feed it some milk while I was there but he took very little. All he wanted to do was head back to the shed and cover himself in straw :-(
I spent a relaxed and leisurely afternoon with JT and his wife. I had my best (and biggest) meal in days - new spuds, fresh peas and a leg of lamb on the bbq, followed by strawberries and gooseberries. I still don't have a great appetite and no desire for alcohol. Just as well as I was breathalised just on the town side of the Lyttelton tunnel on the way home. At least 2 others where in the process of having their keys taken. A sobering thought since I was potentially sharing a tunnel with them.
Other than Rosie and her 10 piglets, Jaffa and Milton round out the resident Kune kunes. Unfortunately Milton found a route into the vege garden and severely dented the lettuce population. He's naughty!
Kune kunes are quite different to domestic or wild pigs. Compare today with the hunter's mate Pumba.
Another hot blustery day but an end is in sight. Hot and blustery here on the plains means the weather in the mountains is bad. JT and I are onto plan C but we're off on Thursday and back Saturday. No fishing but a modest mountain is involved :-)
