Market Square, Burra

This photo represents the calm before the storm. We went for a drive to Burra and spent a couple of pleasant hours there. On the way home I could see smoke in the distance. It looked north of where we live and, reassuringly, the smoke was blowing away from our area. But the smoke was something to worry about. When we got home we found we were in a fire alert area with a bushfire only 10km or so north of us. With binoculars I could see the choppers ferrying in water bombs through the smoke. We packed our bags to leave and checked the CFS updates and local fire service. We waited. Fortunately the fire moved away from us (but bad for others of course) and is almost under control now. We have a week coming with temperatures forecast between 34 - 42C. I hope there are no more bush fires. Ever vigilant.
