DO SLUGS TURN INTO SNAILS WHEN THEY GET OLDER?

The cousins are loving being together, even when I mandate a 9 pm - devices-off-long-walk-in-the-rain regime.  It was worth it as we met a beautiful cat and a huge snail.  And, my, the nights are fair drawing in.
