Lonely Tree

This tree stands a short walk from my house, just across a main road and halfway across a muddy field!
Why this tree? It isn't a perfectly round, symmetrical tree and it isn't a particularly magnificent example of it's species - I'm not even sure what species it is - but it's there, standing strong against the elements. It crosses my field of vision most days, sometimes several times a day, but I've never really looked at it before. Until I set out on foot, giving myself half an hour to take a photograph.
Now I've seen it properly, I'll probably see it again so it may feature in future blips.
