Modern architecture this time. The interplay between the linear design feature and its shadows caught my eye. This is at the Domain, a hoity-toity shopping/restaurant/office area in North Austin. This development was the center of a city proposition that went before the voters last year; the City had granted the developer some major tax breaks and other incentives in exchange for some committments by the developer. So much open space, so many new jobs paying over a certain amount, various other things. Whether the developer completely complied was in some dispute and the proposition was over whether or not the city should renege on its committments. Frankly, I don't remember how it turned out (I don't live in Austin proper but a nearby suburb.) Typical Texas politics, I guess.

No denying the Domain is attractive, though. Nice looking buildings, they've preserved some beautiful oak trees, etc. This was my first trip there, and I was rather surprised at how many people were coming in and out of these rather expensive and trendy stores. I don't know how many of them were actually buying things, but it was a bit of an encouraging sign economy-wise anyway. Generally, the only retail parking lots around here that are full are those at Wal-Marts.
