A Collector of Oddities

Goldcrest

Regulus regulus

Britain's smallest resident bird (the Firecrest is a fraction smaller but is only an occasional visitor). Amazingly, flocks of these tiny birds fly over from Scandinavia each winter and it was once thought that they hitched a ride on the backs of owls!

Lovely to see the sunshine today. We also saw a Treecreeper, Great Spotted Woodpeckers (male and female) and tons of Wrens, Chaffinches, Blue Tits and a man walking round the cemetery carrying a spade. Worrying.
