Sgwarnog: In the Field

Warmest

Another quiet day with 11yo and 14yo on what seems to have been the warmest day of the year so far.

In celebration we opened the patio doors although that also meant we spent much of the day extracting neighbourhood cats from whichever part of the house they managed to get to before we noticed. 11yo rediscovered a holiday time Sudoku book, so that engaged us for a bit.  14yo and I discovered that a helpful strategy when we got stuck was to swap sudoku. We spent quite a while playing Geoguessr together which is a screen game but did at least involve us talking and problem solving together. We did venture out for a bit in the afternoon, but it was really too warm to be very active.

Later, the kids swapped houses again and I headed out for some local pre-season football. There were water breaks galore as Ilkley Town defeated their more illustrious neighbours, Silsden, 3-2 on their 4G surface at Ben Rhydding. There are a few more pictures on Twitter.

I didn’t really get a good butterfly count in during the day, but I did see small, large and green-veined whites, small tortoiseshell, red admiral and meadow brown at various times. And I discovered we’d had an overnight guest in the spare room, a large yellow underwing (extra).
