Corbridge Chamber Music Festival
I've been busy with the programme for the Walking Festival for most of today, but sneaked a quick (20 min) nap in this afternoon. The temperatures have been lower, but not very much. Thankfully, Mum's eyes are improving but she is still finding the heat intolerable.
The Corbridge Chamber Music Festival has been a high spot in our year for a very long time. We have gone to all, or nearly all, the concerts and made friends with the musicians and with other festival goers. This is the first year that Mum has not been well enough to go.
I was there for the opening concert tonight. The music making was brilliant as usual, with the Gould Piano Trio and Robert Plane as the main stars. Tonight we also had Martin Storey on 'cello, Gary Pomeroy and Pascal Siffert on violas and Donald Grant on violin.
In my blip are our friends Tim and Maureen from Glossop. They always come and are now involved in the organisation. I'm always intrigued by the messages people have on their t shirts, not least tonight. Maureen bought this one for Tim (but she had told him to change into a shirt before the first concert...........).
Tonight we heard Haydn's Piano Trio in C (a later work), Martinu's Clarinet Sonatina, Ives Trio for Piano, Clarinet and Violin and the Dvořák String Quintet in Eb Op 97.
All interesting but the Dvořák played with great commitment and verve.
Roll on tomorrow.
