Hanging On In There
Brisa has been in remission now since November.
Her beard and bonkers hairdo have regrown.
It's easy to forget that she was so poorly, and that the Lymphoma may be brewing away under the surface.
She had bloods taken a few weeks ago that show she is in good shape should she need further chemotherapy.
She is slower these days, but she is almost 8 and has Deerhound blood in her...
She still loves a gallop and to chew on Paddy's ears/head/feet...
She still loves the world in its entirety and is the gentlest of goofballs.
I try not to think too much about losing her.
Having recently lost a couple of patients to the same disease, it makes it difficult to avoid thinking about these things.
But, after many years in practice, I maintain that quality of life is paramount; so long as she has that, she will be given every chance.
I am not a superstitious person, but sometimes endings feel inevitable and today feels strange in that way.
It could be a reflection on the dreich weather, my low spirits, recent events...I don't know.
I hope I'm wrong.
Anyway, prepare for more Brisa blips in weeks to come.
