Besançon

We visited the largest city in the area today: Besançon.

The temperature has finally dropped to a very comfortable 22C and since heavy showers and thunder are predicted for the afternoon and evening we went to this city immediately after breakfast. Before breakfast Daan and I did some shopping at the local (huge) ATAC supermarket.

We had a nice stroll through the city Besançon and (as always when we’re on holiday) we visited a few Catholic churches/cathedrals. I always like photographing the interiors I could spend hours in them. Somehow it looks like Bas is picking up this habit also (photo).
I gave him a few tips and tricks on how to photograph and he used them well.

We had a quick panini-sandwich lunch followed by a walk to the birth house of the famous writer Victor Hugo.
This house was right next to yet another cathedral, making this our third church of the day.

We then planned on walking (steep climb) on to the Citadel, but halfway there it started to rain. According to my weather-app it wouldn’t stop anymore. Because of all the red-codes we decided to skip the Citadel and walk back to our car, approximately 2 kilometers away at that point.
The rain changed into a heavy downpour during which we walked on and on. The end result was us reaching our car completely soaked. We were wet to the bone.
Luckily the towels we yesterday with us, for the lake-beach visit were still in the car. We dried ourselves a bit and then went back to the camping.
Nice weather and sunshine the second half of the afternoon there. Great! The boys went swimming again under the condition they would return immediately when the lighting and thunder would start.
I cooked dinner and did some photo processing and posting on Instagram. One of my photos of yesterdays castle was picked up and promoted by some French-tourist-account. Great fun!

By now it’s almost 21.00 and I can see dark heavy clouds coming from the south, but no thunderstorm yet. Maybe todays triple church visits helped a bit.
