Shrine
Three more Japanese New Year traditions in today's blip. In the foreground is the kadomatsu. I wrote about the kadomatsu last year here Just behind the kadomatsu can be seen some unlucky fortune slips, or omikuji. I wrote about omikuji here.In the background can be seen the chinowa. The chinowa is a straw ring placed in front of a shrine at certain times of the year. Walking through the ring is thought to bring one good luck.
