Tracks Of My Tears

We're suffering with the loss of our ash trees due to the Emerald Ash Borer beetle and have already had a lot removed. However, we didn't get to this one in time and earlier this year it blew over one day in high winds.

Walking past the stump, the white fungi attached to it caught my eye and on closer examination I saw the tracks made by the beetles in the side of the stump. I can't say whether their activity caused the trunk to weaken leading to its collapse, but looking at the tracks one wonders.

It's quite sad to think of these large trees, that took many years to grow, coming to an untimely end.
