Clevedon Beach
Over the Christmas period we had heavy rain most days, finally we seem to have a break, but this morning it has been dark with a miserable drizzle. Down on Clevedon Beach at 11.15 it was still dark and overcast as the picture shows. The tide is almost fully in, with a small wave breaking over the end of the slipway, but there is little wind and with the drizzle the Severn Estuary is like a mill pond.
Clevedon Pier is a Victorian structure, recently rebuilt. The beach is folded limestone and at the end is an outcrop which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its mineral content, alas now stripped by collectors.
