Peaceful
The word 'buddha' literally means 'awakened' or 'that which has become aware'. Siddhartha Gautama is the name of the historical founder of Buddhism. This statue has been living in our garden for many years, surrounded by an aura of peace, contentment and, well, enlightenment. He does indeed, in these troubled times, seem to radiate mindfulness. It's a quality central to Buddhism and, like so many concepts of religion it is open to many interpretations. But they are interpretations, not rules which is what I like about it.
Learning to observe the thoughts and let them go without becoming attached to them is an important practice in Yoga as well.
"When you study Buddhism, you should have a general housecleaning of your mind..."

Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind
"A lamp does not flicker in a place where no winds blow."
When the restlessness of the mind, intellect and selfie stilled through the practice of yoga, the yogi...finds fulfillment

Light on Yoga
I spent the day driving back and forth across town, first to my new Pilates equipment class. (I managed not to fall off the reformer today) and then to Heather, the dermatologist, who dug another stitch out of the back of my leg, and gave me an injection of some kind of steroid to calm down the inflammation which is making it quite sensitive. Although it has been months since she removed the cancer, she says the problem is that I heal 'too quickly'.
Might be time for a little housecleaning of the mind...
