Dijon

A city trip to Dijon is on the agenda today.

Dijon is quite a distance from where we stay, so we’re going by train.
This has two advantages:
1. I don’t have to drive so far and long;
2. I don’t have to drive into a busy city I don’t know my way around in.
The second reason for me is the most important one.
On top of that: The train drops us right in the middle of the city.

By car we went to Besançon and parked it on P-Nord, at the station Besançon-Viotte.
The train left right on schedule at 12.06 and arrived downton Dijon one hour later at 13.01. We walked around in the centre for a while and soon sat down for lunch at a nice restaurant.
The weather wasn’t as hot and sunny as predicted, in fact it started to rain once we had our lunch outside.
Not a real problem, the parasols were large enough to prevent us from getting wet.
It only became a bit of a problem once our lunch was finished and the rain hadn’t stopped.
Luckily all my weather-apps promised it would clear up soon enough and it wouldn’t rain anymore for the rest of the day. In the meanwhile we went into a big super-store and killed some time there.
Soon the sun came back and we were outside again.

What else could we do than visit a church! Yes!
We went to the cathedral Saint-Bénigne and visited a (sort of) hidden crypt underneath it. Parts of it date back to the 6th century. Kind of spooky and dark, and us being the only ones in there made it quite a journey for Bas and Daan. Especially Daan was very impressed by the age of the rooms he was in.

Back in the town centre we found a nice terrace on ‘la Place de Liberté where we all enjoyed a cold Coca Cola. That’s where I made todays blip-photo.

The afternoon was getting to an end by then and because we couldn't resist we visited another church, the Paroisse Saint Michel. A few shopping streets later we all agreed it was time to go back to the station, to catch a train back to Besançon.

We soon found our train, got tickets from a  rather challenging ticket machine and soon after we got into the train, it departed from the station.
Around 19.30 we were back at our car and drove home. While leaving Besançon Annemarie suddenly noticed a set of restaurants and in a split second we decided to have dinner there.
We opted for a pizzeria and enjoyed great pizza’s during the next hour and a half.

All and all we were back at the camping by 22.00 hours.
