Somehow this Ilkley ghost sign has escaped my attention before today. They do sometimes show up better in different lighting conditions, or when the stone is wet, but I must have walked straight past it tens of times.

The top half reads: "W. Cowling Joiner & Builder." My best guess as to the obscured bottom half is "Henderson's United Printers and Stationers." The pointing finger suggests that the second business was to be found around the corner. I'd have to rummage through some old trade directories to findout more about these. The building is now occupied by Upstagers, a youth theatre group.
