The Newburgh quay.
The village of Newburgh on Ythan was once a busy port with a 300 foot long quay and associated corn mill and warehouses. One of its main attractions to maritime traders were the cheap harbour dues compared to the nearby port of Aberdeen. This so incensed the Aberdeen Town Council that in 1573 they took the law into their own hands and arrested and immobilised Newburgh's trading vessels by confiscating their sails.
Those glory days are long gone and all that can be seen now are the ruinous foundations of the quay.
