The House of the Rising Sun

You know your iconic music moments are not always by the illustrious star acts or performers. A few years ago the brother and myself were in Bantry in West Cork doing our usual annual Wild Atlantic Way trip. A bus tour of mainly elderly visitors, we are no spring chickens ourselves, from Scotland arrived into the hotel on the same day we were there. After dinner they sat around in the lounge. One of the group had a guitar and led the singing. They sang many songs but the song that stood out for me was their version of The House of the Rising Sun. Two of the women led the singing for this song but all of the group knew the song. I never heard it sang better and probably never will.
