guignolet...
...a French wild cherry liqueur I first read about in Kate Mosse's Languedoc Trilogy.
The description of a glass brimming with a cherry red liqueur sipped through thirsty lips stayed with me and on my first trip to the Languedoc I found a bottle. Delicious and living up to all read in her words.
Produced mainly in Angers (where Cointreau comes from) A and I find a bottle to bring home on our local travels in search of olive oil.
And then!
Lo and behold!
A village neighbour brought a bottle of Guignolet made from local cherries.
Now that is special.
