A Leap, A Whistle and A Fart

My Dear Princess and Dear Fellows,

This (we think) is a kaka. We see a pair of them pretty regularly out the back but this is the first time we've been able to take an (admittedly crap) picture of one.

The little things are very camera shy. Typically, by the time we have noticed one is out there, they have AWWWWKKKKKK'd off.

(They really do have the most distinctive screech).

As well as being beautiful birds, they also have an amusing comedy name. As in, "There was a huge kaka on the deck this morning!"

Poo jokes never stop being funny. I feel the same about fart jokes and it is reassuring to find that I am not the only one. As you know, I enjoy medieval history and was most amused the other day to find out about Roland The Farter.

Roland was the jester at the court of King Henry II. His party piece was something called, "A Leap, A Whistle and A Fart", which involved him doing all three of these things at once. In Latin, his act was billed as, ""Unum saltum et siffletum et unum bumbulum".

Yes! This is a man who could even fart IN LATIN.

Henry II was so taken with this, he gave Roland a country house and 100 acres of land, so long as Roland promised to do his act for the king's party every Christmas.

Is it any wonder I love medieval history so much? This would have been MY time. To be rewarded for blowing off? I could have been the biggest landowner in Yorkshire.

S.
