What to do?

This is the fireplace in our bedroom (which in a previous life was a drawing room, The flat doesn't suit that way anymore) and I have no idea what to do with it. It's marble, and huge. L wants to put a stove in it, but will it fit? How old is it? Is it a bit odd to have a fireplace in your bedroom?!
