Pohutukawa

Pohutukawa, or New Zealand Christmas tree (Metrosideros excelsa) is a coastal evergreen shrub that has beautiful red flowers in mid summer. It is native to the northern parts of the North Island but is widely planted as an ornamental. Here in Christchurch pohutakawa isn't always in flower by Christmas, and this one of ours growing beside the house, is in full flower now.
