Should I be likin' all this lichen?
Well, let me backtrack a bit.
We have had a grand total of approximately 3 minutes worth of sunshine over the last several months. It's cool, it's overcast, and it's damp. The trunks of the trees in front of my house are covered in this beautiful green, fuzzy growth which, due to the above environmental conditions, I'm guessing is some form of lichen -- a delightful, symbiotic blend of algae and fungus living in blissful harmony all over my trees and rocks. Is this a correct assumption?
I'm sure there is a lichen-loving botanist out there who could help me identify the above growth, lichen, or not. It's beginning to take over the lawn as well so I'll be dealing with that when the weather perks up a bit.
The super-macro setting on my XZ-1 made easy work of this closeup shot, and I thoroughly enjoyed a little time outdoors on this rainless day!
