Freely restored
'Dolgellau Free Library' says the inscription in Welsh. It was built in 1911, designed by Edmund A Fermaud of London following a design competition. Many of the original architectural features were since lost, including that rare example of Welsh language text being inscribed onto the facade. A hundred years later the exterior was restored as part of the Dolgellau Townscape Heritage for Dolgellau Town Council (Rhys Llwyd Davies Architect | Pensaer). The building is still in active use as part of the Gwynedd County Council library service (with "free internet access") and is also used for meetings and events. It is owned by the Town Council via a charitable trust called 'Dolgellau Institute'.
In extra, someone at Rhug Estate appears to have noticed their mistake a little late in the day - not too late to vote for Christmas?
