Jougs
Preached at Peebles Old this morning, followed by Eddleston.
This set of "jougs" used to be attached to the outside wall of the Parish Church in the village of Eddleston. They were there to enable the punishment of offenders by public humiliation, a sort of Scottish equivalent to the stocks popular in England.
