Piece Hall Halifax

After a lunch out with my brother we visited the Piece Hall in Halifax.  This is a Grade 1 listed building built as a cloth hall for handloom weavers to sell the individual pieces they had produced.
It opened in 1779 with a central open courtyard and completely walled around.  There are no windows in the outside walls as this was to protect the cloth that had been made by the weavers.
It was restored a few years ago and is now used quite extensively for events and today was an 'Art event' where there were numerous chalk artists producing art work on the ground.
Around the outside of the courtyard are many shops most of which are independent, cafes, bars and galleries.  A good place to meet and watch the world go by.
