Penguin Parade 1962
The Caledonian Hotels 'Peacock Alley' has an exhibition of 10 Scotsman photos of the 50's, 60's. I was going to post a scene from one of them at Portobello Beach in 1952 where the crowds on the beach make the Royal Mile look empty at festival time. I decided instead to go for the penguins parading at Edinburgh zoo.
Well, Sunday morning.
What more could you ask for than Will Selfs Point of View 'To the Bathroom' with it's scatological and vivid description, not unlike James Joyce, which ended in his painted details of a trip he'd made to some Sewers and that he believes all schoolchildren should also have this experience.
I love that man, who doesn't draw a breath in all his pomposity. He lures me in to his world every time and no matter what the subject I always come alive and smile a lot.
My daily morning phone call from Donald this morning was very strange. We discovered that we'd both had a really bad dream that left both him and me with a horribly unsettling feeling and neither of us could sleep well after it. Now nothing had happened prior to this in real life, we were getting along swimmingly as usual. But me in Edinburgh and him way over in Pencaitland dreamt of losing each other and feeling very insecure about it.
Peculiar I know, but I suppose this isn't a 'Dear Marjorie' page so I'll say no more. Better to focus on that wonderful 'Point of View' subject.
