The Lammas Market is in town.
We had a walk through the fair this evening. The Lammas Market is said to be Scotland's oldest surviving medieval market. Lammas day is the second Tuesday in August; in the past it was a day when folks looked for new work, and traded things in the market, as well as enjoyed the sideshows. There are great historical records of it. Nowadays it comprises several large fairground rides, some smaller ones for children and various slot machine arcades etc. Most popular in Market Street tonight were the dodgems and the waltzers; this ride in South Street rarely stopped. There are market stalls and various food outlets too - most of these are open during the daytime. The event closes off two of the main streets in town for a few days each year. By Wednesday it'll look like it normal - the streets are always left in good order.
