No Way Out

The last day of my week off saw me heading to the National Trust's Hinton Ampner in the heart of the North Hampshire countryside near Alresford.  After the last couple of days of poor weather, the site was quite busy with in the relatively calm, warm and sunny conditions, but walking away from the main house quickly regained the peace of the countryside.

I spotted this gate into the wider park, still showing a detail from the coat of arms of Ralph Stawell Dutton, 8th Baron Sherborne (1898–1985), the last holder of the title, and responsible for much of the house seen today, including its restoration following fire in the 1960s.  The gate has clearly not been in use for some time, and as such makes it into the list of entries for this week's Derelict Sunday.
