Chateau des Marais
Another damp cloudy day. Today I've blipped the moat around Chateau des Marais. During the summer it had dried out, but it is quite full at the moment.
Many of Guernsey place names originate from the literal translation of the location in Guernsey French. For example - Chateau des Marais is 'Castle marshes'. There are three general terms for marsh in Guernsey French - Marais, Mare or Marette. In bygone days the island must have been pretty boggy as there are at least 30 places that include one of those terms in their name. e.g. La Grande Mare, La Mare de Carteret and 8 Marais roads. There are also several road names that include Fontaine (spring) and Douit (stream).
