Whitby
Today we travelled to Whitby. The journey was horrendous. It rained all the way and the traffic was heavy. There were traffic jams all the way caused by the driving rain, several sets of roadworks, general traffic congestion, Countryside Live at Castle Howard causing miles of tailbacks and a road crash involving three vehicles. It took an hour to get from one motorway junction to the next on the M62.
After the worst of the motorway congestion we stopped at the next service station. The queue from the Ladies was down the corridor and there were as many men lurking around waiting for their ladies to emerge.
After double the normal travelling time we arrived at our B&B which is beautiful and has a sea view.
When we’d settled in we had a wander around the town, we know it quite well as we’ve been here several times before. We had fish and chips at the famous Magpie Cafe before returning to our digs and relaxing in our room.
The photo shows the Abbey ruins above the rooftops.
