Auschwitz-Birkenau
We could not visit Krakow without paying our respects. The camps are only about 35 miles out of the city. We visited both camps but this is not the place to talk about feelings or describe what we saw. Over one million people were murdered here. What I will mention though is that I heard a blackbird singing in Birkenhau.
Extra photographs: the countryside on the way to the camps. This area of Poland seems to be thriving - the houses were modern and spacious along the road and in the villages and there weren't many old traditional dwellings to be seen.
Another: near Franciszanska Street shaded by the trees of Planty (the park that encircles the old town of Krakow). The last is of a street named Wislna leading into the Main Market Square.
