Another local history blip...
... showing an aspect of Harrogate Then and Now. The Library Local History Group are currently preparing our 2020 Calendar - so this may well appear there.
The original photo (c1890) has the George Hotel on the left of Ripon Road and the Concert Rooms of 1835 on the extreme right. The hotel is still open for business, behind the trees, but the Concert Rooms and gardens were demolished in 1939.
Harrogate Royal Hall was opened in 1903 and can be seen to the left of the much newer exhibition hall on the lower photograph.
The pillars on the front of the new exhibition hall are not those from the concert rooms. The original pillars are preserved in the RHS Harlow Carr Gardens.
