Railway Walk
Backblip for 17th August
Mr Flum has been reading a book about the mid-C19 railways of the Dalkeith area and wanted to investigate on the ground. The lines served the local coal mines to convey the product to the main line.
This section around Whitecraig is now a designated pathway through a variety of plantlife on which we saw speckled wood and a couple of painted lady butterflies. The path proved very popular with the occasional dogwalker and cyclists (if you look carefully there is a red jacketed cyclist disappearing in the distance).
